Ever wondered why the Z in my screen name? Now you know.
Mazinger Z, on of the first mecha anime and manga of all time, and one of the main influences in the genere.
Although I prefer his Mazinkaizer incarnation, no one can deny that the original Mazinger is a classic among classics and basically the father of all giant robots. Tetsujin 28 is the grandfather for those wondering.
